Some of the most important skills that children develop in their early years involve learning to "bounce back" from hardship and to take life's inevitable ups and downs in stride. Dr. Erin Tone will discuss what research tells us about practical ways that parents/caregivers can help children gain and maintain such emotional resilience from infancy onward.

A series of programs offered once each month, Know as They Grow is designed for parents of children ages birth to six years of age.  Each month, FCPL welcomes early childhood experts to discuss topics that are of interest to parents. Know as They Grow programs take place on FCPL's GoToMeeting platform.  Registration is requested, and an email with login information will be sent prior to the program.

The Director of Clinical Training for Georgia State University's department of psychology, Dr. Erin Tone earned her doctoral degree from Emory University in clinical psychology and spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health, where she received the NIMH Richard J. Wyatt Memorial Fellowship Training Award for outstanding scientific achievement. Dr. Tone is a clinical psychologist whose 100+ publications focus on the ways in which emotional states affect social behavior in both children and adults. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. She is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, has served on study sections for the National Institutes of Health, and from 2016-2020 served as an Associate Editor for the journal Clinical Psychological Science. In addition, she sits on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Family Psychology, and Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice.
