Denmark Library Project Updates

    • The Denmark Grand Opening is approaching!
Staff and Volunteers have been busy shelving all the books at the Denmark Library. The furniture has been delivered and set in place. The A/V system to the Meeting Room has been installed. The automatic book sorting system installation is completed. The construction crew is busy finishing the outside landscaping and the Children’s Bookworm Garden.

    • Books are coming to the Denmark Library!
The interior painting and flooring have been completed, and the exterior hardscape and landscape are nearing completion as well as the exterior building siding. The book shelving units are arriving soon for book shelving to begin later this month.

    • Denmark is in the “finishes” stage of the construction process now, meaning that interior walls are being painted and interior flooring is being installed as we look ahead to shelving and items from Materials arriving in mid-October. The exterior hardscapes are almost complete and landscape materials are being planted, including wild grass seeding. The exterior of the building is in its final preparation for siding to be added.

    • Now that the building has been “dried in,” work indoors is happening quickly, including the installation of drywall panels and ceiling gridwork. Outdoor work has begun on the Friends Terrace adjacent to the adult area of the building, and continued progress is being made on the construction of the outdoor Bookworm Garden and amphitheater.

    • Inside:
Over the past few weeks, teams have been working hard to complete the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for the interior of the building. Insulation and drywall are beginning to be installed with plans for walls being completed by the end of July.

      Outside:
Hardscape work is beginning around the perimeter of the building including the addition of concrete and pavers for patio areas at the front and back entrances, steps to the amphitheater, and its seating.

    • As of the second week of June, the roof insulation and TPO roofing membrane that covers it were 95% complete and 75% of the exterior building glass has been installed. Ongoing interior work includes installing HVAC ductwork, fire sprinkler lines, and wall framing. An exterior waterproof coating (white) was applied to provide protection from the rain. The three-week plan is to “dry in” the building by adding all of the exterior window glass so that work can continue inside regardless of weather. Teams are currently on schedule with the building completion plan.

    • This month the interior wall and door framing began, along with the storefront framing for windows. All electrical infrastructure was completed to make way for roofing to be installed beginning in mid-May. Roof installation will include the addition of insulation and Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roofing membrane.

    • This month, crews have completed the installation of the roof decking and are 90% finished with the exterior wall framing. The first binder layer of asphalt has been laid on all driving and parking surfaces and all sidewalks are complete. Over the next few weeks, we expect the installation of exterior walls to begin, along with the framing for storefront glass windows and the addition of roofing insulation.

    • During the first part of March, construction teams added roof decking which is now 60% complete. Once roof decking is finished, crews will begin installing the building’s perimeter wall. We also expect the addition of asphalt in April when the temperatures are more moderate. The construction site also got a visit from our future Denmark Library Branch Manager Sarah Reynolds guided by IT and Facilities Manager Holly Barfield!

It has been a soggy spring so far, but despite the rain, crews have completely finished placing and securing the roof decking. The installation of perimeter walls and framing has begun. Curbing and gutters have been added to the front of the building and pickup window areas and we expect completion soon, depending on weather conditions.

    • The main building’s frame is now completed and roof decking is currently being placed. The interior ceiling shown in the photos is made of acoustical panels which will serve as the finished ceiling for the majority of patron areas throughout the Library. A turn lane is being cut in from Fowler Road, and curbing and gutter leading from the main road has been poured, giving the entryway a more defined look. Over the coming weeks, the focus will be on completing the roof decking and beginning the installation of the perimeter wall framing.

    • Construction on the building has begun, with vertical steel supports and I-beams being installed. The Library loading dock's final cement pour was also completed. In the coming weeks, the main focus will be on erecting steel and putting on the steel decking for the roof.

    • In early December, crews worked on the parking lot by laying gravel, installing curbing and completing the initial asphalt layer.

Later in December, concrete was poured in the early morning hours to complete the building pad and ensure maximum drying time.

    • Crews continued work on the storm drainage system and access vault. They also completed the building's footings and added parking lot curbs and gutters.

    • The team carried out proof rolling and impaction testing to ensure stability for the building pad and worked to get the storm drainage system installed.

    • The grading of the building pad is now finished and we are turning our attention to the grading of the parking lot and preparing the site for the storm drain, sanitary sewer, and underground utilities.

    • We officially broke ground on the Denmark Library on July 27, 2023 and are now actively preparing the site for construction. The initial erosion control requirement and inspections have been completed. Up next: grading, storm drainage, and utilities!

    • The Library hosts a groundbreaking for the Denmark Public Library on Thursday, July 27, 2023 including Library Board members along with other county officials.

    • The Library signs contract with Albion General Contractors.

    • The Library selects McMillan Pazdan Smith as the architect.
